I made this map using Flourish — it is one of my favorite tools for making dynamic visualizations.
I believe there is a lot of value to visualizing data because visuals make great stories and can be useful in supporting quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research.

Trade hierarchies are easy to make and customize, and they can be valuable for understanding what comes out (or goes into) an economy. Here are some trade hierarchies I made in Flourish for a project on Southeast Asia. The data came from the CEPII-BACI data set, which is an excellent data set for regression and network analysis:
